What Is Biodiversity Agreements

In order to preserve biodiversity in the long term, the Ministry of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (UVEK) has developed a national biodiversity strategy on behalf of the Federal Council. It was adopted by the Federal Council on 25 April 2012. The corresponding action plan is expected to be completed by the end of 2017. It will set out concrete measures to achieve the ten strategic objectives to ensure the long-term conservation of biodiversity in Switzerland. Alvarado-Quesada, I., & Weikard, H.-P. The governing body of the convention is the Conference of the Parties (COP), made up of all the governments (and regional economic integration organizations) that have ratified the treaty. This supreme authority reviews progress under the convention, identifies new priorities and establishes work plans for members. The COP can also make changes to the convention, create expert bodies, review Member States` progress reports and cooperate with other international organisations and agreements. In the run-up to the 2012 Conference of the Parties (COP 11) on Biobiological Diversity in Hyderabad, India, preparations have begun for a global vision of biodiversity, involving former and new partners, and based on the World Wide Views experience on global warming. [45] The climate literature has drawn attention to the breakdown of benefits between public (primary) and private (secondary, local or secondary) services (R-bbelke 2006; Pittel and Rebbelke 2008; Longo et al. 2012; Pittel and Rebbelke 2012; Finus and Rebbelke 2013).

Local benefits have been found to be considerable in size relative to overall or even greater benefits (Pearce 2001).
