The world rolls along
Unaware of the dance
Except for a few
Who venture a glance
Toward those down below
Who’re casting upstream
Waltzing the current
In search of a dream
I wave when they blow
Or hold up a fish
I know how it feels
To look down and wish
.
.
That it was my turn
For that perfect cast
Close by the piling
To raise my rod fast
Tune in to the strike
Think down the line
Feel for the bottom
This is the time
For big fish at sunset
Granted they’re few
It only takes one
On better days two
To make it worthwhile
Driving over that span
In rush hour traffic
To race back again
For just a few casts
Beneath the Bay Bridge
In search of rare trophy
Summer rockfish
