As much for my benefit as anyone’s, I’m listing my speaking schedule for the next few months. I’ll have books to sign at each event. At some, I’ll be presenting a new Power Point slide show called “The Right Stuff – Gear, Accessories, & Attitudes for Successful Light Tackle Fishing.” Good luck fishing this spring!

Feb 23rd – Annapolis Saltwater Fishing Expo – The SALTWATER FISHING EXPO will be held on Saturday Feb. 23rd from 8 AM to 3 PM at the Annapolis Elks Lodge. This event has grown into one of the most popular winter fishing shows in this area featuring expert seminar speakers, top quality tackle dealers and local charter captains and guides.  I won’t be speaking this year, but I’ll have a table with books and hopefully plenty of opportunities to talk and answer questions.

March 2 – CCA Northern Virginia Banquet & AuctionThirteenth Annual Dinner and Auction taking place on Saturday, March 2nd, 2013 at 6:00 pm.  This year’s event will be at The Shriner’s Kena Temple in Fairfax, VA.  The Northern Virginia guys have been working very hard with their donors and supporters in gathering a wide array of Auction items that are sure to impress – They have over $20,000.00 in live and silent auction items.  This is a little different event for me in that I’ll have a microphone and my guitar and I’ll be accompanied by my buddy Joe Evans while performing some original songs about fishing and living in our region.

March 6 – Kent Island Fishermen – A great group of fishermen that meets right down the road from my house at the American Legion at 800 Romancoke Road on Kent Island.  I spoke here last year and really enjoyed it so I’m looking forward to the meeting this year.  They have refreshments available in the bar next door along with raffles and door prizes. Free admission. Doors open at 7:00 PM and I speak at 7:30 PM.

March 11 – Pasadena Sportfishing Group Pasadena Sportfish is the largest gathering of fishermen in our area. It’s always a pleasure to visit this fine group at the Erleigh Heights Fire Hall.  Membership is free and there are no dues.  There are door prizes, tackle vendors, a 50/50 raffle, and a fifty cent prize table containing over $600.00 worth of fishing gear. Doors open at 6:00 PM and I speak about 7:00 PM. Just bring yourself and a few friends and enjoy the show.

March 30 – Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company Fishing Expo – Chestertown, Maryland.Admission: $3, children under 16 free. Get ready for the upcoming fishing season by perusing boats, new and used tackle, boating supplies, crabbing supplies, wildlife art and fishing charters. Food and beverages will be available for purchase and there will be raffle items. This is the first year this event will have seminars. Earlier in the day you can hear talks by Charlie Schneider and Brady Bounds.

I’ll add more events as they come up but I admit I’m trying to keep my speaking engagements down a little this year. It’s a lot more fun fishing than talking about it! Speaking of fun, let’s get together for drinks and fishing conversation at the Boatyard Bar & Grill in Eastport next Tuesday February 26th for Anglers Night Out. Dick and Joe chickend out on the sensitive fishing bromance movie I recommended (grin), so they will show the best of The Drake Magazine’s 5-Minutes of Fishing Film Festival winners. Happy Hour from 3-7 pm with $3.00 draft pints, house wines and rail drinks—and a special $5.00 app menu –also .99 oysters. CCA will be there to get ramped up for the Annapolis Banquet and the Lefty Tie Fest. Gather around 5:30 (or earlier) for food, liquids and fish talk. Movies start around 7:00. Home by 9:00, as if nothing ever happened.

Thanks to Gary Reich for including the picture above of a nice fish I caught in this month’s PropTalk Magazine. Pick up your copy at area docks, boatyards, bars and restaurants. Did I say good luck fishing this spring? I got some interesting reports this week that strongly support an early spawn and good spring and summer fishing on a variety of species. Here’s a nice fish we released boat-side on a cold, rainy day last week.  Frankly, it was heavy and I didn’t feel like trying to lift it up!

  1. ES Fisherman says:

I might make it to the Annapolis Saltwater Expo, if not maybe the Kent Island meeting. On an unrelated note, have you ever tried the gulp eels for jigging? I’m thinking with the added scent they might be useful when the fish aren’t cooperating.
